Donegal Cottage Holidays goes mobile

So, this launched earlier in the week … the Donegal Cottage Holidays website, which has been in it’s current desktop state for about 18months or so now, has just launched it’s separate mobile website.

Given the large number of pages involved (over 2,000 I think …) we decided that a responsive website would not be practical – we would be re-working a lot of content from scratch and although the majority of it is stored in a database and therefore separate from the pages themselves, there is a lot of legacy content that isn’t stored that way.  Besides, there’s a good bit of functionality on the desktop site that we weren’t bringing over … so, a separate mobile site it was.

We stripped down the functionality of the site into it’s bare essentials: searching for properties, viewing properties, and contacting property owners.  It’s simple and works well.  It’s based on the jQueryMobile framework and I’m using this awesome PHP based mobile device detection script to do the, well, the mobile device detection.
